Welding Thoughts

Recently we have experienced a number of requests for welding information as it applies to our SportJon construction. In particular skip welding vs. solid bead welding. Our motto has always been..."When Only The Best Will Do", so trust me when I tell you our choice to use skip welding, when needed, has everything to do with quality. In particular, bottom stringers are welded with a 4/6 skip, 4 inches of weld, and 6 inches open. Aluminum boats flex and sometimes strike objects, often hard enough to dent or even tear the boat bottoms. If a weld fails for any reason, it will be contained within those 4 inches of each weld. Think of a solid weld in this situation and compare it with a chip in a windshield. The resulting crack will go the full distance almost every time. Just like the big custom boats we used to build, people still remark on the beautiful welding on our SportJon, a work boat. So...solid welding can be a sign of quality when used in the right application. But...it can also be a poor choice in other areas of boat construction. Due to the newly released American Turbine 203 Rock Crusher Pump, We have decided to bring back one of our most popular models, The Phantom Sportsman.

Our Sportsman combined with the A/T 203 Rock Crusher Pump mounted on our shallow water tunnel will allow you to have the same shallow water performance as our SportJon Models. This pump will also allow us to install our Patented Weed Grate System which allows you to run in the Weeds.

our New Custom Hybrid Solution.....

Full HARDKOR™ & UHMW Center-Keel.

Our latest innovation offers the advantages of both UHMW and HARDKOR: the hull is fully coated

with HARDKOR and a 22-inch-wide strip of UHMW is applied on the centerline of the keel

(coverage is 11-inches on either side of centerline). Depending on your specific needs, we can

discuss additional UHMW coverage on top of the HARDKOR.

This system boasts the strength, adhesion, and ease-of-repair of HARDKOR, with the low

coefficient of friction of UHMW on the primary sliding surface (keel). Furthermore, our new

epoxy bonds UHMW to the HARDKOR exceptionally well - much better than the glue that bonds

the UHMW to the aluminum. If the UHMW is torn or otherwise compromised, the under layer of

HARDKOR still protects the hull. Our Hybrid system is the ultimate in Hull Damage Mitigation

and an ideal choice for professional operations.
